REL Planar PL-2 Subwoofer

The line is built around a slim on-wall form factor, with models intended to deliver deep bass without the bulk usually associated with traditional subwoofers. The concept is aimed at listeners who want better bass integration but have limited room for large cabinets.
The new range includes the PL-1 and PL-2. REL’s PL-2 uses an 8-inch active FlatPiston long-throw, steel chassis woofer paired with a 10-inch FibreAlloy cone passive radiator and is rated to reach 24 Hz at -6 dB.
Both models are roughly 15cm deep and under 21kg. PL-1 is slightly taller at 49cm, as opposed to PL-2’s 48cm, but PL-2 is wider at 65cm compared to PL-1’s 52cm. However, both will probably be easier to position than a conventional box subwoofer.
REL emphasises Planar’s convenience features, such as built-in wireless capability and support for an AirShip Direct transmitter module, which should simplify system setup and placement. That combination suggests REL is trying to appeal not just to audiophiles, but also to buyers who want a cleaner look and fewer cable complications.
On the subject of placement, Planar Cart adds wheels to one corner and a chromed foot, letting you trundle it wherever you need it. Naturally, this also makes it a cool-looking free-standing sub.
The launch appears to be part of REL’s broader push to rethink how subwoofers fit into a room rather than treating them as hidden add-ons. This includes options for cloth grilles that blend into your room’s decor and premium wood grilles that “brings Planar forward as part of the design.”
